Istrian police have taken into custody a 65-year-old Ukrainian citizen charged with exploitation of children for pornography and the serious criminal offense of sexual abuse and exploitation of a child. On August 1, 2026, at around 3 p.m., a security guard at a tourist facility in the Istria region caught the man secretly filming naked children using glasses with a built-in camera.
The security guard detained the suspect until police officers arrived, who then conducted a criminal investigation. A search of the 65-year-old uncovered material of an incriminating nature. After the investigation was completed, on the evening of August 2, 2026, the suspect was brought to the detention unit of the Istrian Police Department along with a criminal report.
Police emphasized that such cases demonstrate the growing public awareness of the issue of filming children. "Such criminal investigations show that the public is increasingly aware of the problem of filming children and that citizens recognize suspicious behavior, which enables a timely police response and the apprehension of perpetrators," the police statement said.
The police issued a clear appeal to parents to protect their children and monitor where they are and what they are doing on the beach. "Dress children in swimsuits, and if you notice a suspicious person filming children, immediately notify the police at 192," police said. They urge citizens to report any unusual behavior without hesitation, especially if they notice someone photographing or filming minors in a suspicious manner.
