Summary
  • Zrće beach is transforming from a purely party destination into a full-day spot with beach, top-notch food, and drinks.
  • Three clubs offer completely different experiences: relaxed Nomad, themed Symbol, and legendary Papaya, which celebrated its 25th anniversary with a performance by Timmy Trumpet.
  • The gastronomy at Nomad includes dishes like a 21-day dry-aged ribeye steak and creative vegetarian options, making it competitive with serious restaurants.
  • According to marketing director Tea Cafuta, today's Zrće offers something for everyone, from cocktails by the sea to dancing until dawn with world-class DJs.

As summer crowds flock to the sea, one Croatian island keeps buzzing. Pag, especially Novalja and its Zrće beach, has long been synonymous with top-tier entertainment. However, what has been changing in recent years is the perception of this place. Zrće is diligently working to become a full-day destination, combining beach relaxation with gourmet dining and a diverse club program.

Journalists from Novi list spent an evening exploring Zrće's new offerings. Their journey took them from a peaceful stroll through Novalja's center, just a five to ten-minute drive away, to three completely different clubs. They chatted with tourists, sampled food and cocktails, and finally danced at Nomad, Symbol, and the legendary Papaya.

Surprising Gastronomy

Before the music took over the night, the focus was on the kitchen at Nomad beach club. This isn't about quick bites but dishes that rival serious restaurants. On the table was a 21-day dry-aged ribeye steak, served with aromatic truffle butter and crispy sweet potato. There was also a creative take on the classic salad, Caesar by Nomad, served in a Neapolitan bread filled with grilled chicken, bacon, and Grana Padano.

The menu didn't overlook vegetarians. Creamy risotto with asparagus, young peas, mint, and lemon was light and refreshing, while cabbage steak, grilled greens on lentil ragout with toasted hazelnuts, showed how a simple ingredient can become the star of the plate. Alongside the meal came top-notch cocktails, with the signature Beach Mule-a mix of vodka, ginger beer, lime, and mint-standing out.

Three Clubs, Three Different Worlds

Tea Cafuta, marketing director for Zrće beach and the clubs Papaya, Aquarius, Nomad, and Symbol, who has been in this business for 17 years, guided the journalists through the club offerings. She gave a firsthand look at how each club offers a unique experience.

The first stop was Nomad, a beach club that has become a favorite gathering spot for guests of different generations and musical tastes. "If I have friends who love completely different music, I'd bring them to Nomad. The music played here always guarantees a good time; everyone can find something they like," Cafuta told Novi list. Entry is free most nights, and the atmosphere is relaxed, starting well before dark.

The next stop was Symbol, the newest club on the beach. Already in its first season, it has drawn attention with its focus on themed nights and a visual identity that changes from event to event. During the visit, a Latin night was underway, with the entire space decked out in red tones, hearts, and balloons, while dancers and the house DJ brought hot reggaeton rhythms. The crowd was distinctly international, with Italian, German, and English heard all around.

Evening Highlight with a World Star

However, the main event of the evening took place at Papaya. To mark the 25th anniversary of one of the world's best open-air clubs, Australian musician and DJ Timmy Trumpet performed. The line for entry didn't let up for about two hours, and thousands inside witnessed an impressive production with light effects and pyrotechnics. His energetic set, a blend of EDM and live instrumental performances, turned the entire space into a massive dance floor under the open sky.

After an evening spent in three completely different clubs, it became clear that at Zrće, everyone can find something for themselves. Some will enjoy cocktails at sunset, some will dance to reggaeton, and some will wait until the early morning hours for the biggest world DJ names. It is precisely this diversity that is the biggest change this famous Croatian party destination has undergone in recent years.
