In the midst of the summer season, when accommodation and dining prices in the most famous Adriatic destinations hit their peak, one small coastal town between Sutomore and Petrovac still offers a vacation on a much more modest budget. Čanj, long recognized as a quieter alternative to the more hyped resorts, attracts families, older couples, and anyone looking to escape the big crowds.
Unlike Budva, Kotor, and Tivat, where a stay during peak season can seriously strain the household budget, in Čanj you can find a private apartment for as little as around 35 euros per night. The accommodation offering mainly consists of apartments, guesthouses, and smaller hotels, and even during the main tourist season, prices range from 10 to 25 euros per person. Family apartments typically cost between 35 and 50 euros per day, which is significantly below the average of more well-known Montenegrin destinations.
Dining out doesn't break the bank either. In some restaurants and cafes, a lunch or a cooked meal during the day can be found for five to eight euros. Additionally, coffee, ice cream, and basic necessities are cheaper than in many more famous coastal tourist spots, making financial planning for a family trip easier.
One of Čanj's main attractions is Biserna obala (Pearl Coast), a sandy-pebble beach over a kilometer long. On the well-maintained beach, you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, with a set costing between eight and 15 euros. For visitors who prefer not to spend money on beach amenities, there's a section where you're allowed to set up your own towels, umbrellas, and other gear.
Nearby is also Kraljičina plaža (Queen's Beach), hidden between cliffs and accessible by boat, with the ride costing just a few euros. The combination of natural beauty, a more peaceful vacation, and affordable prices makes Čanj an attractive choice compared to more famous Montenegrin resorts, proving that a seaside getaway can be found even on a limited budget.
