The operations led to a criminal report against a 61-year-old man from Brač and a misdemeanor proceeding against a 23-year-old stopped in Split, as announced by the Split-Dalmatia Police Department on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Arsenal on Brač: Bomb, Three Rifles, and an Unregistered Amphora

Brač police completed a criminal investigation against a 61-year-old man suspected of illegal possession, manufacturing, and procurement of weapons and explosive substances. During a search of his home, a concerning amount of weapons and ammunition was found and seized.

Among the seized items were a hand-held bomb without a fuse, 151 grams of gunpowder, a rifle with rifled barrels, a scope, and a suppressor, a fuse intended for artillery ammunition, two additional rifles, a pistol, 140 rounds of assorted ammunition, and as many as 500 primers.

In addition to the weapons, police also found an unregistered amphora in the house, which constitutes a violation of the Law on the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Goods. In connection with this part of the case, the Cultural Heritage Inspectorate of the Ministry of Culture and Media will be notified to initiate proceedings for imposing a fine.

A criminal report was filed against the 61-year-old with the competent state attorney's office, as well as a report for a misdemeanor under the Law on the Acquisition and Possession of Weapons by Citizens.

Young Man in Split Stopped with Pistol and Magazine

In the second operation, on Sunday around 12:50 AM, intervention police officers in Split stopped a 23-year-old Croatian citizen. During the inspection, it was determined that he had an illegal pistol and a magazine with two bullets in his vehicle.

The young man, already known to police for reports of violence and threats, is suspected of three misdemeanors under the Law on the Acquisition and Possession of Weapons by Citizens. After his arrest and the criminal investigation, he was brought to court with a motion for indictment. Despite the police's proposal for detention and a 30-day prison sentence, the court decided to release him.
