However, Barcelona is preparing to offer the player more lucrative terms than those proposed by their biggest rival, which could completely turn the situation around.
While the battle for Rodri continues, Real Madrid has, according to The Athletic, finalized negotiations to bring in Yan Diomande from Leipzig. Although the transfer had already been announced by Fabrizio Romano, The Athletic now claims that the final transfer fee is significantly higher than initial estimates, amounting to as much as €140 million. The young Ivorian international shone at the World Cup and is expected to be a massive boost for the Madrid club.
One of the biggest soap operas of the transfer window revolves around Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian forward has an active contract with Real until June 2027, and Arsenal, according to UOL, is trying to lure him with a contract worth €24 million per season. That is roughly €5 million more than his current salary.
Real Madrid has not sat idly by. According to a report from Globo, at a meeting held on Wednesday, the club increased its offer and presented contract extension models until June 2031. The proposal includes a significant signing bonus, performance-related bonuses, and loyalty rewards. Although it would reach the club's annual salary cap of €20 million set by president Florentino Perez, Vinicius's total earnings would be noticeably higher. In a telling move, Vinicius deleted all posts from his Instagram profile after receiving Real's offer.
There's also intrigue elsewhere. Hull City has completed the biggest transfer in its history, signing Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos for €23 million. This breaks a ten-year-old record when they paid Tottenham €15.4 million for midfielder Ryan Mason in 2016.
On the other hand, Romelu Lukaku could continue his career in the MLS. Atlanta United is interested in the Belgian international, but there is a major obstacle.
