Chilean 'Operated' in Zagreb and Split, Grabbed 800,000 Euros

In a joint operation by the Zagreb Police Department and the Split-Dalmatia Police Department, a 35-year-old Chilean citizen was arrested. He is suspected of a total of five aggravated burglaries, three in the Zagreb area and two in Split, with total material damage estimated at over 800,000 euros.

The criminal investigation revealed that the suspect acted according to a premeditated plan, primarily targeting properties used by foreign nationals. In Zagreb, using taxi transportation, between July 4 and July 17, 2026, he broke into a house and an apartment on Medveščak and a house owned by a 54-year-old woman in Novi Zagreb.

From Jewelry to Crypto Wallets

During the burglaries in the Zagreb area, the perpetrator would force open terrace doors using physical strength and suitable tools. He stole cash, jewelry, clothing, travel suitcases, as well as several cryptocurrency and online transaction wallets from the properties.

Just two weeks later, between July 31 and August 1, 2026, he continued with the same pattern at Žnjan in Split. During the night, again using a taxi, he arrived at two apartments intended for foreign guests. After damaging the window on the balcony doors, he entered and blocked the doors with chairs to secure himself. From the apartments, he took clothing, perfumes, jewelry, cosmetics, technical equipment, and a wallet with documents and cash.

Arrested on Return to Zagreb

Intensive cooperation between police officers from the two departments led to the identification of the perpetrator. The crucial moment came on Monday, August 3, 2026, when the suspect's movement from Split towards Zagreb was detected. He was arrested upon arrival in the capital.

After the criminal investigation was completed, the 35-year-old was handed over to the detention supervisor, and a special report was forwarded to the competent state attorney's office in Zagreb.
