The State Hydrometeorological Institute has issued the highest level of warning for the coast and hinterland of Zadar. The peak of the heatwave lasts until Tuesday, with relief in the form of rain and a drop to 28°C arriving midweek.
A red alert is in effect for the Zadar area due to extremely dangerous weather conditions brought on by a prolonged and intense heatwave. As reported by the portal 023.hr, the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has signaled the highest level of preparedness for the coastal area and hinterland, warning of extreme daytime heat and unbearable tropical nights.
The peak of the heatwave is expected in the first days of August. In the city of Zadar itself, daytime temperatures will reach 36 degrees Celsius. It will be even hotter in the interior of the county and the Ravni Kotari region, where the mercury will climb to an extreme 39 degrees.
Particular pressure on the health of residents and numerous guests will come from pronounced tropical nights. According to data reported by 023.hr, temperatures in the coolest hours, just before dawn, will not drop below 25 degrees. In the early morning hours, a brief and barely noticeable bora wind will offer some relief, while during the afternoon, a moderate maestral and southwest wind will dominate.
Nearly identical weather conditions and the red level of preparedness will continue on Sunday, August 2. On Monday, August 3, the heat will ease only slightly, moving to an orange alert, but temperatures will remain above 34 degrees.
Midweek brings the desired shift in weather. On Tuesday, August 4, in the afternoon and evening, significant cloud cover is expected from the west. Showers and thunderstorms will quickly spread from the hinterland toward the coast and islands. On Wednesday, August 5, the morning will still be unstable with rain, and the influx of cooler air will finally bring daytime temperatures down to a pleasant 28 degrees.
From Thursday, August 6, weather is expected to stabilize again with the return of sunshine, but with far more bearable summer temperatures around 30 degrees.
