  • Temperatures above 37 °C were recorded across the Dalmatian hinterland, Knin, and the Neretva Valley.

Dalmatia was hit by exceptionally strong heat on Monday afternoon, August 3, 2026, with temperatures at some measuring stations approaching the 40-degree Celsius mark. According to data from the Pljusak.com network, the absolute daily record was set at the Metković, Mobine station, which recorded 39.8 degrees. At the time of the reading, around 4:40 PM, the temperature there was still a high 35 degrees.

Stari Grad and Islands Among the Hottest

It was also exceptionally hot in the wider Hvar area. The Stari Grad 3 station recorded a daily maximum of 39.1 degrees, and in the afternoon hours it measured 38.3 degrees, which was the highest current temperature among all displayed stations at that time. In Stari Grad, another measuring station recorded 39 degrees, with a current temperature of 37.9 degrees. Similar high values were recorded at other locations: Zadvarje had a maximum of 38.9 degrees, Oklaj 38.8, and Han Obrovac Sinjski 38.3 degrees.

Heat Doesn't Spare the Interior Either

Temperatures above 37 degrees were recorded across the Dalmatian hinterland, including the wider Knin area, the Imotski region, and the Neretva Valley. Daily maximums of 37.9 degrees were recorded at stations in Muškovci, Knin, Glavina Donja, and Staševica, while Vid and another station in Knin measured 37.8 degrees. Slightly lower, but still very high temperatures, ranging from 33 to 36 degrees, prevailed in Hrvace, Sinj, Trilj, Muć, Drniš, Šibenik, Živogošće, Komiža, and on Dugi Otok.

Heatwave Continues, Relief Only Expected by the Weekend

The Dubrovnik area is not spared from extreme heat either. According to the JUGInfo forecast, the heatwave shows no signs of weakening, and the rest of the week is expected to bring plenty of sunshine, muggy nights, and temperatures climbing up to 39 degrees. Daily highs will range between 34 and 39 °C, with daytime values still hovering around 35 degrees or occasionally exceeding that mark. Minimum morning temperatures will be between 22 and 27 °C, while in Konavle they could locally be a degree or two lower.

The first signs of a weather change, according to current forecast calculations, arrive only at the end of the week. During Friday evening and Saturday, there is a possibility of local showers and thunderstorms, which could lower daytime temperatures by a few degrees. However, this will only be a brief respite, as temperatures will remain around 30 degrees, and stable, warm weather is likely to continue into the start of next week. Therefore, meteorologists continue to urge caution, advising people to avoid being outdoors during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of fluids, and follow the guidance of health services.
