Dalmatia remains the hottest part of Croatia today, with temperatures already exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon. According to data from the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ), a red alert is in effect for the entire coast due to extreme heat.

Yesterday, Knin and Osijek recorded 40 degrees, marking the third time this summer that a location in the country reached or exceeded that value. Today, the heatwave has shifted toward the Adriatic, so at 1 PM, temperatures on the coast were two to five degrees higher than the previous day, while inland temperatures were correspondingly cooler by the same margin.

Rašćani near Vrgorac Leads with 39 Degrees

Meteorological stations across the region are recording exceptionally high values. The highest temperature in Dalmatia at 1 PM was measured in Rašćani near Vrgorac, reaching 39 degrees. Knin and Živogošće both recorded 37 degrees at the same time, while Split's Marjan hit 36.1 degrees.

Some stations in the Šibenik hinterland and the Vrgorac area have already recorded 40 degrees in the early afternoon, and as the day progresses, there is a possibility of further temperature increases.

A Change Is Coming: Bora Tonight, Showers on Saturday

Relief from the heat is expected as early as tonight, ahead of Saturday, August 8. The bora wind, already blowing at the foot of Velebit, will spread to the rest of the coast, with the strongest gusts expected on Saturday evening. Along with the bora, localized showers are possible on Saturday afternoon, primarily in the Dalmatian hinterland but also along the coast itself.

Despite this brief change, according to the latest DHMZ forecasts, very warm and hot weather will persist throughout the coming week.
