At least nine people were killed in a nighttime ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, Ukrainian emergency services announced on Saturday morning. According to their data, 23 others were injured, revising an earlier death toll of four.
As reported by the emergency services via Telegram, fires and material damage were recorded in five districts of the capital. In the Solomianskyi district, two people lost their lives, and a "five-story building was partially destroyed and caught fire." In the Darnytskyi district, where seven casualties were reported, the emergency services noted, among other things, a "fire (...) in a building."
An AFP journalist on the ground reported hearing several series of explosions that set off car alarms on the streets. The Telegram channel Slavyangrad reported that an "impressive crater" was left in Kyiv following the missile strike.
The number of injured varies depending on the source. While Večernji list and Jutarnji list, citing Ukrainian emergency services, report 23 injured, the Telegram channel Ateobreaking relays information from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) about 27 injured.
Russian source RVvoenkor also reported an attack on an industrial facility in the Buchanskyi district, an area below Kyiv, which caught fire after the strike.
The attack occurred on the night of Saturday, August 1, 2026, amid intensified Russian strikes on Ukraine. The Telegram channel AMK Mapping announced that it would publish more detailed consequences of the attack later.
