This morning's tremor unsettled residents of Dubrovnik and its surroundings. The earthquake was felt on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 8:46 AM, and according to initial reports from the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), it had a magnitude of 2.7 on the Richter scale.
Although all sources agree it was a weaker earthquake, details about its epicenter and depth vary. Večernji list, citing the EMSC, reports the epicenter was 13 kilometers from Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the other hand, the portal Dubrovniknet reports the epicenter was eight kilometers north of Dubrovnik, at a depth of 3.4 kilometers. Dnevnik.hr, meanwhile, reports a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale with the epicenter about three kilometers from the city, at a depth of six kilometers.
Despite the differing data, residents' reactions are very similar, all describe a short but powerful jolt. On the EMSC website, witness comments poured in. "A light vibration, a deep rumble..." described someone from Kupari. Others were even more vivid: "Short and sharp," "It shook, there was a rumble, over after 3s," "Chickens. It felt short but strong," "It gave a good shake..." and "Like a detonation, shorter than a second."
The portal Dubrovniknet relayed similar impressions: "It was short but strong" and "It lasted a few seconds, but it was powerful." Dnevnik.hr's headline sums up the sense of unease: "Like a strong detonation, loud noise from great depth." So far, there is no information on any material damage.
