In the afternoon hours of August 4, 2026, two open-space fires broke out in Zadar County. Around 2 p.m., a report was received about a fire in Privlaka, while the fire site at Bokanjac was simultaneously reactivated.
The information was confirmed by the county fire chief Matej Rudić, who emphasized that the fire at Bokanjac broke out on extremely inaccessible forest terrain. The fire had been developing at this location the previous day as well, which further complicates the efforts of firefighters.
Due to the challenging terrain configuration, additional ground and air forces were urgently dispatched to both locations. At Bokanjac, there are currently 16 firefighters with 7 vehicles from the Zadar Public Fire Brigade. They are being assisted from the air by two CL-415 Canadair water bombers, with two more aircraft of the same type expected to arrive.
Simultaneously, in addition to ground forces, two Air Tractor aircraft were dispatched to the fire site in Privlaka. Fire services continue their intensive battle against the blaze to bring both fires under control as soon as possible.
