The past week was excellent for Croatian club football on the European stage. Three matches, three wins, and a significant jump on the UEFA coefficient rankings that directly impacts the number of clubs and their positions in future European competitions.
Dinamo struck first, dismantling Lithuanian side Kauno Žalgiris 5-0 at Maksimir in the Champions League qualifiers. Then on Thursday, more proof of quality followed in the Conference League qualifiers. Hajduk played a superb match in Lithuania against Žalgiris, winning 5-2 and taking a commanding lead back to Poljud for the return leg. Rijeka was better than Finnish side Ilves at Rujevica, and despite dominating, celebrated a narrow 1-0 win.
According to data from the specialized account Football Meets Data on platform X, these three wins added 0.750 points to Croatia's coefficient. That was enough for Croatia to jump from 23rd to 21st place on the national coefficient rankings in just one week, overtaking Romania in the process. Croatia's total coefficient now stands at 24.531 points.
Currently ahead of Croatia are Scotland with a coefficient of 25.050 and Austria with 25.250 points. Romania has fallen behind with 24.500 points. In the same period, Denmark achieved a perfect record of four wins in four matches, adding a whopping +1.000 to their coefficient. Switzerland, alongside Croatia, also recorded an excellent record of three wins and one draw without a loss.
Next week, the return legs are on the schedule, and all three Croatian representatives are in a favorable position to advance to the next qualifying round. Dinamo will visit Kauno Žalgiris on Tuesday at 7 PM, while Hajduk and Rijeka play their return legs on Thursday. Further success would not only secure progression but also boost the coefficient, which is crucial for the future of Croatian club football in Europe.
