Filip Kostić, the 33-year-old Serbian footballer, is the new player of PSV Eindhoven. After leaving Juventus, he had two options - one from Athens and the other from Eindhoven - and he chose a two-year deal with the Dutch side. Although Greek media had claimed in recent days that he was close to joining AEK, led by Marko Nikolić, Kostić decided to return to the Netherlands, where he will be coached by Peter Bosz. He will wear the number 18 shirt at his new club.
Croatian international Ivan Perišić played a crucial role in the transfer, tirelessly convincing Kostić to join him. Kostić shared Perišić's words on the club's official website: "Just come, you'll fall in love with the club, and together we'll make life difficult for everyone."
The new PSV signing did not hide his excitement about working with the Croatian veteran. "I'm happy we have the chance to play together, and I want to achieve a lot of success with this great club. I can't wait to get started and show what I can do on the pitch; that's what I love most," Kostić said.
Kostić revealed that he didn't hesitate when the call from Eindhoven came. "When PSV contacted me, I immediately knew I wanted to come here exclusively. It took some time for the negotiations to be completed because I wanted to make sure my family would feel at home here and that this was the right move. In the end, everything fell into place, and I'm overjoyed," Kostić told the club's official website.
Although he has not worked with coach Peter Bosz before, Kostić is well acquainted with his style of play. "I remember how well-organized his teams always were. After the first conversation, I realized that his approach and style of football suit me perfectly. That made me even more excited about joining PSV," he added.
Kostić arrives in Eindhoven after a season in which he made 18 appearances for Juventus, scoring three goals and providing one assist. The previous season, he was on loan at Turkish side Fenerbahçe, where he played 27 matches, scoring one goal and registering six assists. At the peak of his career, he was a key player for Eintracht Frankfurt, with whom he won the Europa League; his return to the Netherlands, where he previously played for Groningen, brings his story full circle.
The new PSV player is still waiting for his work permit, after which he will be able to join the squad. The new Eredivisie season begins this weekend.
