While Hajduk's squad prepares for the third qualifying round of the Conference League against Lithuania's Žalgiris, scheduled for Thursday at 7 PM, the club's management is working at full speed to bring in new reinforcements. According to 24sata, the eighth signing of the year at Poljud should be Bosnian international Dženis Burnić.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder, who is equally comfortable in central midfield and on the right side of the pitch, has been a free agent since July 1, 2026, after his three-year contract with German second-division side Karlsruhe expired. Over the past year and a half, his market value has been estimated at 1.2 million euros.

From Borussia to the Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team

Burnić has spent his entire career in Germany. Born in the western city of Hamm, he took his first footballing steps at Borussia Dortmund. He progressed through all the youth ranks of the famous club, and in the 2016/17 season, under coach Thomas Tuchel, he made two appearances for the first team, one in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League.

After that, Borussia sent him on loans to Stuttgart and Dynamo Dresden, before he moved to Heidenheim in 2020 for a fee of 500,000 euros. He spent three years there, then moved to Karlsruhe on a free transfer, where he stayed until last month.

Although he represented Germany at youth levels from U15 to U21, two years ago he decided to accept the call from coach Sergej Barbarez and play for Bosnia and Herzegovina. So far, he has earned 22 caps for the "Dragons," including two brief appearances at the World Cup, in the final stages of group matches against Canada and Qatar.

Eighth Signing for the New Season

Burnić's arrival continues a very active transfer window for the Split club. Before him, Hajduk had already strengthened with Dalisson, Alec Van Hoorenbeck, Anđelo Šutalo, Mathieu Acapandie, Etnik Brruti, Albert del Moral, and Marin Šotiček. It remains to be seen whether Burnić will be ready for a potential appearance as early as Thursday, when Hajduk seeks an important advantage in the first leg against Žalgiris.
