Apple could mark the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone's launch next year by increasing the screen sizes on its most premium models. According to information shared on the Chinese social network Weibo by an anonymous but reliable source, Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 20 Pro could feature a 6.4-inch display, while the iPhone 20 Pro Max could grow to a whopping 7 inches.
These leaks come at a time when the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, expected to be unveiled next month, are anticipated to retain the current screen sizes of 6.3 and 6.9 inches. Apple's last size increase was two years ago, when the iPhone 16 Pro grew from 6.1 to 6.3 inches and the Pro Max from 6.7 to 6.9 inches. An Apple representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In addition to larger diagonals, Digital Chat Station's report also suggests a radical design shift. The new models could reportedly feature curved glass on all four sides and completely eliminate the visible bezel around the display. This would mean the front of the device looks like a single glass surface that flows over the edges, while maintaining the existing aspect ratio.
Tech reviewer Austin Evans, whose YouTube channel has nearly six million subscribers, believes the screen increase "makes sense" given that people are consuming more content on their iPhones than ever before. "I'm excited to see what they'll prepare for the 20th anniversary," Evans told CNET. "If they can deliver an iPhone with virtually zero bezel, it could set the tone for what the iPhone can be in the next decade."
The iPhone 20 series is expected to be unveiled in September 2027, three months after the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone's launch on June 29. While the focus is on the larger screens, rumors also mention a host of other improvements. These include the complete removal of physical buttons for power, volume, and camera control, which would be replaced by solid-state surfaces integrated into the device's frame.
There is also talk of placing the Face ID sensor under the main display, which would allow the Dynamic Island to be reduced to the size of the front camera hole. However, some reports suggest these changes could happen earlier, as soon as the iPhone 18. Internally, the device is expected to be powered by a second-generation 2nm chip, promising better efficiency and performance, along with a battery featuring a pure silicon anode. The display is also expected to be a brighter and thinner OLED panel that reduces glare and consumes less power.
