Another in a series of online fraud cases has been recorded in the Istria region, where a 38-year-old man lost thousands of euros trying to buy a truck. According to police information, the incident occurred after the victim found a seemingly bargain ad on an online marketplace.
After finding an ad for the sale of a truck at a price of several thousand euros, the 38-year-old got in touch with the seller. The terms of the sale were agreed upon, and the buyer made the full payment. However, when the agreed delivery day arrived, the vehicle did not show up, and any further attempts to contact the seller ended with communication being blocked.
Realizing he had been scammed, the 38-year-old reported the entire incident to the police. Officers from the Labin police are now conducting a criminal investigation to find the perpetrator of this crime.
In light of this case, the Istria Police Department has issued a warning to citizens to be extremely cautious when shopping online, especially when it comes to ads for cars and trucks. The police note that scammers most often advertise vehicles that are a few years old, popular models with low mileage, in good condition, but at a price significantly lower than the market value.
"Given that ads aimed at defrauding buyers are frequently posted on certain websites, the Istria Police Department warns citizens to be more careful and not to fall for bargain ads for the sale of cars and trucks," the police statement reads.
The police appeal to citizens to be careful not to become victims of such crimes, and to report any suspicious offers to the relevant authorities.
