Drivers and pedestrians who use Josipa Lončara Street in Jankomir on a daily basis will soon be able to breathe a sigh of relief. This road, known for its numerous potholes and lack of adequate lighting, is finally set to receive a long-awaited upgrade. The City of Zagreb has confirmed that funds have been secured for a comprehensive renovation of a 600-meter stretch, from Kreše Golika Street to the Borčec stream.
According to the official response from the City of Zagreb to Zagreb.info, the planned intervention will not be limited to just patching up potholes. The work includes a complete overhaul of the road surface and sidewalks, improvements to the stormwater drainage system, and the installation of entirely new public lighting and traffic signage. The goal, as stated by the City, is to enhance safety and the quality of traffic flow on this street.
Residents and employees of nearby companies have long been warning about the poor condition of Josipa Lončara Street. The road surface is riddled with potholes that become nearly invisible after rain, leading to vehicle damage. An additional hazard for pedestrians was the lack of sidewalks, forcing them to walk along the edge of the road, often using their phones or flashlights to make themselves visible to drivers in the evening hours. The situation was further complicated by parked trucks waiting to enter the nearby waste management center.
Before road work can commence, existing electrical installations must be relocated and protected. HEP is currently carrying out these preparatory works. "Since the start of road work depends on the pace of these operations, it is planned to begin in late August," the City of Zagreb stated.
With this announcement, it seems that years of hardship for everyone who frequents this part of Jankomir will finally come to an end, and the new infrastructure should bring significantly safer conditions for all road users.
