Members of the Military Police Dog Training Company visited Lekenik and Ladimirevci with their young four-legged partners, bringing the world of responsible military duties closer to the youngest.
Great excitement filled the air on Sunday among the residents of SOS Children's Villages Lekenik and Ladimirevci as they were visited by members of the Military Police Dog Training Company "Satnik Krešimir Ivošević". Accompanied by their handlers, two young dogs from the Military Police Regiment gave the children a close-up look at the future service animals of the Croatian Army.
The meeting was an opportunity to explain the daily work with these animals in a way that children could easily understand. The handlers told them how the dogs grow, develop, and gradually acquire the skills necessary for the specialized tasks that await them in the defense system.
The starting point for every K-9 military dog is a playful puppy, but under the watchful eye of experts, it eventually masters tasks that require focus, self-control, and a deep bond with its human partner. It is this unbreakable bond, as the military instructors explained to the children, that is key to the success of the entire training.
Each animal, the Croatian Army members emphasized, has an individually tailored learning and progression plan. The entire process is gradual, with the ultimate goal of creating a reliable partner capable of operating in a wide range of situations. The children were also able to sense the responsibility that handlers carry in caring for their four-legged colleagues.
In addition to learning about the world of military training, the youngest received special gifts prepared by the Ministry of Defense and the Croatian Army. Among the presents were coloring books, notebooks, and plush toys, but no gift could overshadow the live stars of the day-the young dogs who stole all the attention.
Curiosity was immense, and the children constantly asked questions about how the dogs behave, how they learn, and what they will do when they grow up and become fully-fledged service dogs.
This gathering is yet another confirmation of how important it is for the Croatian Army to be present in the local community and among the youngest generations. Through such meetings, children gain a unique insight into aspects of military units' work that usually remain hidden. Besides sparking bursts of laughter and delight in Lekenik and Ladimirevci, the K-9 military dogs and their handlers conveyed a powerful message of dedication, patience, and unity.
