The Kyiv region declared a Day of Mourning for August 6, 2026, following a devastating overnight attack by Russian forces using ballistic missiles and drones. The decision was announced by the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, on his Facebook page.
In honor of the victims, Ukrainian flags across the Kyiv region will be lowered to half-mast. Local authorities have also announced the cancellation or restriction of all entertainment events. This decision came after Russian forces launched a combined attack during the night of August 5, the consequences of which are still reverberating throughout the region.
According to the latest data, 16 people were killed and 36 injured in the attack on the Kyiv region. Other sources, including the city of Kyiv itself, report at least 17 dead and 44 wounded. These discrepancies in figures suggest that official information pertains to different stages of reporting or geographical coverage.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a video of the aftermath of the attack on the social media platform X, emphasizing the scale of Russian aggression. According to his statement, Russia used 24 ballistic missiles, four Zircon or Oniks missiles, and as many as 115 drones in this wave of attacks.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported multiple fires across the city. In the Obolon district, a missile struck a 20-story residential building, causing a fire. In the Desnianskyi district, a warehouse caught fire, and missile debris fell near a residential building. A large fire also broke out in the Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district, where emergency services were dispatched urgently.
