A fire broke out on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at around 3:30 PM in the area of the town of Vrgorac, specifically in Zavojane, in the Bokšići hamlet. Members of the Vrgorac Volunteer Fire Department (DVD) immediately responded, and aerial assistance was soon requested.
According to available information, six firefighters with two fire engines from the Vrgorac DVD are taking part in the intervention. To bring the fire under control as quickly as possible, two Canadair CL-415 firefighting aircraft have also been deployed.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Croatia confirmed the engagement of air assets via the social network X. "Two Canadair CL-415s are currently being deployed to the fire in Vrgorac, Split-Dalmatia County❗️," the Ministry stated.
According to reports from the scene, firefighters, with the help of air assets, continue to fight the fire and are trying to prevent its further spread. More detailed information about the area affected by the fire, as well as any potential threat to residential or other structures, is not yet available.
