HAK reports increased traffic on highways heading south, with the biggest congestion at the Lučko toll plaza, and delays also recorded on A2, A3, A4, A6, and the DC1 state road.
On August 1, 2026, at the peak of the tourist season, Croatian highways toward the coast are experiencing exceptionally heavy traffic. According to data from the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK), vehicle queues stretch for kilometers, reaching up to 12 kilometers on certain sections, as reported by Zagreb.info.
The most critical point is the Lučko toll plaza on the A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići highway. A queue of vehicles coming from the Zagreb bypass and the Kosnica interchange stretches approximately 12 kilometers, while the one from the direction of the Sveta Nedelja interchange is about seven kilometers long. As reported by Večernji list, between the Lučko and Bosiljevo 2 interchanges, heading toward Dubrovnik, traffic is moving in slow-moving queues with occasional brief stops.
Extra caution is needed on the A1 highway near the Pristeg rest area in the direction of Zagreb, where HAK has warned of the danger of hitting an object on the road. On this section, traffic is reduced to one lane, and the maximum allowed speed is 60 kilometers per hour.
The A2 Zagreb-Macelj highway is also affected, with a queue about six kilometers long forming before the Trakošćan toll plaza in the direction of Zagreb, extending into Slovenian territory. Due to the high volume of vehicles, a ban on truck and bus traffic has been introduced on the section from the Đurmanec interchange to the Krapina interchange, in the direction of Zagreb.
On the A3 Bregana-Lipovac highway, queues before the Lučko toll plaza are also about 12 kilometers long when coming from the direction of Kosnica, and about seven kilometers from Sveta Nedelja. Sources differ on the exact location of a traffic accident on the A3: Zagreb.info states it occurred at 195.+200 km between the Lužani and Slavonski Brod zapad interchanges in the direction of Lipovac, while Večernji list and 24sata report an accident at the Zagreb zapad interchange in the direction of Lipovac. In both cases, traffic is moving with difficulty, with a speed limit of 80 km/h.
On the A4 Goričan-Zagreb highway, before the Sveta Helena toll plaza in the direction of Zagreb, the vehicle queue extends about one kilometer. On the A6 Rijeka-Zagreb highway, between the Vrata interchange and the Tuhobić tunnel in the direction of Rijeka, there is an object on the road, requiring a speed limit of 80 km/h.
Increased traffic is also being recorded on the DC1 state road Zagreb-Knin-Split. Traffic is moving in slow-moving queues with occasional brief stops between Gornji Stupnik and Klinča Sela heading south, as well as in the area of roadworks near Otrić.
HAK has issued an appeal to all road users. "To make traffic as safe as possible for all participants, we ask drivers to adjust their speed and driving style to road conditions and maintain a safe distance between vehicles," HAK said, as reported by Zagreb.info. Additionally, they warn that with higher traffic density, the frequency of emergencies such as traffic accidents increases, further hindering movement.
