As part of the 70th Summer Events in Krk, Kristina Kolar and Damir Kedžo proved that opera and pop can coexist, and Kraftwerk performed for the first time in the Pula Arena.
Two significant cultural events marked the last days of July in Croatia. On the Krk Scena Zidine, the concert "Granice srca" (Boundaries of the Heart) gathered nearly 400 visitors, while the German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk performed for the first time in the Pula Arena.
The Summer Events, held from July 6 to August 24 at interesting locations, this season feature eight concerts organized by the Krk City Culture Center. Rijeka-based Novi list reports that the main stars of the "Granice srca" program, which lasted 90 minutes, were national opera prima donna Kristina Kolar, soloist of the Croatian National Theatre Ivana pl. Zajc in Rijeka, and pop singer Damir Kedžo. Their collaboration, which began last year at the Rijeka Summer Nights festival, once again demonstrated how opera and pop can coexist.
Accompanied by the Rijeka Symphony Orchestra (concertmaster Tea Grubišić) and Kedžo's band, all under the baton of maestro Igor Vlajnić, a number of well-known works were performed. The audience heard the overture from Bizet's "Carmen", Schubert's "Ave Maria", the aria "Summertime" from the opera "Porgy and Bess", the duet "Somewhere" from "West Side Story", and the song "Sunset Boulevard". The arrangements by Olja Dešić successfully connected the orchestra and the band in Kedžo's hits such as "Ništa nova" and "Srce mi umire za njom".
Novi list reports that the artists spontaneously led the program, and the audience demanded encores even after the end. For the encore, they performed a role swap: Kedžo tried his hand at performing the "Brindisi" from Verdi's "La Traviata" and the demanding Puccini aria "Nessun dorma", while Kolar embarked on the duet "Sve u meni se budi". The audience's delight accompanied the performers.
On the same day the report from the Krk concert was published, Tportal reported on the first performance of the German electronic band Kraftwerk in the Pula Arena. The concert was held on Tuesday evening, July 28, 2026, as part of the "Man Machine" tour, which is visiting locations where they have not yet performed in their over 50-year history. After Nottingham, Veszprém, and Skopje, it was the turn of the Croatian ancient arena.
The two-hour performance included about twenty songs, among which were hits such as "Autobahn" and "Computer Love", and the encore brought the inevitable "The Robots". The projections on the video wall were, as Tportal writes, typically minimalist, and the sound impeccable. Photographer Goran Sebelić captured the atmosphere for Cropix.
