Irresponsible drivers failed to form an emergency corridor, costing firefighters precious minutes on their way to a family home.
Members of the Public Fire Brigade of the City of Krk successfully contained a fire in a family home in Njivice this morning at 11:03 AM. Although the intervention ended without the fire spreading to the rest of the building, the brigade reported a serious problem they encountered en route to the incident.
The fire was reported on August 4, 2026, at 10:38 AM via the Krk Police Station. The duty shift was immediately dispatched with two fire engines and four firefighters. However, during the drive to the scene, they encountered irresponsible behavior from some drivers.
Drivers failed to clear the way for the fire trucks in a timely manner and did not form an emergency corridor, costing precious minutes. The Public Fire Brigade of the City of Krk emphasizes that these minutes in emergencies can be crucial for saving lives and property.
Upon arrival, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the front door and windows of the house. Without delay, they set up a hose line to the entrance and began extinguishing, preventing the fire from spreading further into the home.
After the fire was contained at 11:03 AM, firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to thoroughly inspect the entire building. To rule out any possibility of re-ignition, they checked for hidden hotspots, smoldering, or heat sources.
The Public Fire Brigade of the City of Krk once again appealed to all road users to immediately allow emergency vehicles to pass unimpeded and to form an emergency corridor when they approach.
"Every second counts, and by yielding to firefighters, emergency medical services, and police in a timely manner, citizens can directly help save lives and property," said the Krk firefighters.
