The situation is particularly alarming in the center of defense. During the American tour, Iraola had a very limited number of center-backs at his disposal, which forced him to give opportunities to young players without significant senior experience, such as Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Mora Talle Ndiaye, and Luke Chambers.
Injury problems are numerous. French center-back Jeremy Jacquet, who arrived from Rennes, has yet to play a single match in the preseason due to a shoulder injury suffered in February. Despite returning to training, the coaching staff is carefully managing his workload because he has not been in competitive rhythm for months.
Giovanni Leoni is in the final stages of rehabilitation, and Joe Gomez is injured again. Virgil van Dijk joined the squad later because he participated in the World Cup with the Netherlands.
