City Councilor Blanka Klasić Praises Swift Response by City of Zadar, County, and Hunting Society 'Diana' in Providing Water for Wildlife
Due to a prolonged heatwave and lack of rainfall, natural water sources in the Musapstan park-forest have begun to dry up, leaving wildlife without the basic conditions for survival. Following an appeal by city councilor Blanka Klasić from the DOMiNO party, the relevant services and hunters responded almost immediately.
Councilor Klasić sent an appeal to the City of Zadar and Zadar County a few days ago, and just yesterday, members of the Hunting Society "Diana" went into the field. They supplied the watering holes and natural puddles with water, ensuring the animals at Musapstan got the much-needed liquid.
"I'm glad the appeal met with a swift response. Mayor Šime Erlić and Head of Department Segarić contacted me right away, informing me that concrete actions were underway. The Hunting Society 'Diana' went into the field and filled the watering holes and natural puddles, which is extremely important for wildlife during these prolonged heatwaves," Klasić said for Antena Zadar.
The operation at Musapstan is part of broader activities by the Hunting Society "Diana." As reported by eZadar, members of this association, with support from Croatian Forests, have been regularly visiting and filling watering holes at several locations in recent days. Besides in Zadar, they take care of water sources for game in hunting grounds such as Blatski gaj, Novigrad, and Škabrnja, aiming to protect animals and their habitats during summer droughts.
Pleased with the swift response, Councilor Klasić also proposes additional measures. She referred to the practice in the Kvarner region, where utility companies place containers of water for birds on the roofs of public buildings during extreme heat.
"I believe we can apply this simple and useful practice in Zadar as well. I also take this opportunity to invite citizens to leave a saucer of fresh water for birds wherever possible. To some, it's a small gesture, but to an animal in these temperatures, it can mean a great deal. Caring for animals and nature is not a matter of politics but of responsibility and humanity," Klasić stated.
