Makarska was on the verge of its millionth overnight stay this morning, and during the night of August 4-5, 2026, it will officially surpass that mark. According to data from the Makarska Tourist Board, 997,000 overnight stays had been recorded by this morning, meaning the round number will be reached a day earlier than last year and two days earlier than in 2024.

The Makarska Tourist Board is pleased with the continuation of the positive trend. "The Makarska Tourist Board expresses its satisfaction with the positive trends and thanks all tourism workers for their contribution to achieving these results," they stated.

July Brought Over Half a Million Overnight Stays

In July alone, more than 86,000 tourists passed through Makarska, generating over 500,000 overnight stays. Compared to the same month last year, arrivals increased by 4.54 percent, while overnight stays rose by 1.66 percent. The growth is even more pronounced compared to July 2024, when arrivals jumped by 3.60 percent and overnight stays by 2.06 percent.

Looking at the first seven months of 2026, Makarska records even stronger numbers. The city welcomed more than 190,000 tourists who achieved over 950,000 overnight stays. Compared to the same period in 2024, this represents a 7.57 percent increase in tourist numbers and a 4.97 percent rise in overnight stays.

Poles, Ukrainians, and Guests from BiH Lead

When examining the guest structure in July, tourists from Poland recorded the highest number of overnight stays, with 74,583. They are followed by guests from Ukraine with 66,724 overnight stays, and those from Bosnia and Herzegovina with 64,636. Significant numbers also come from Germany (35,360 overnight stays) and Sweden (30,870 overnight stays).

In absolute figures, Makarska hosted 15,103 guests from BiH, 12,748 Poles, 10,809 Ukrainians, 6,152 Germans, and 5,786 Swedes during July. Particularly noteworthy is the double-digit growth in traffic from the Ukrainian, German, Hungarian, and domestic markets.

Hotels and Private Accommodation See the Biggest Jump

By type of accommodation, the largest increase in commercial tourist traffic compared to the previous year was recorded in hotels, which achieved 12.43 percent more overnight stays. Household facilities also show solid growth, with six percent more overnight stays.
