While most of his peers are having fun on vacation, eight-year-old Finn from Austria has turned his Adriatic holiday into an environmental campaign, cleaning the coast of plastic and waste every day.
Instead of carefree jumping into the sea and enjoying ice cream, eight-year-old Finn from Austria is spending his summer holidays in a somewhat unusual way. Namely, this little environmental activist has decided to dedicate his time on the Adriatic to cleaning the coast of plastic and other waste, starting his mission on the island of Koločep.
With a litter picker and a bag in hand, Finn scours the shores of Koločep daily, pulling various types of plastic and odd debris from the sea and rocks. His parents, who sent photos to the Morski editorial team documenting their son's valuable efforts, jokingly say that Finn finds so many lost and discarded shoes that he could easily "open his own shoe store."
Yet, behind this unusual summer routine lies a serious desire to protect nature. Finn's family emphasizes that they are great fans of the Adriatic and regularly follow news about the sea and environmental protection. They stress that the goal of Finn's efforts is to encourage others, both locals and tourists, to join this important mission.
"The main focus should be on keeping the sea clean and motivating all people to protect Croatia's beautiful environment. We know that most of the plastic comes from the wide area towards Albania, but we must think as Europeans, the sea has no borders," say Finn and his parents.
After thoroughly cleaning the paths and shores of Koločep, Finn didn't stop. His environmental mission continued on the nearby island of Ruda, near the famous restaurant Bowa, where he continues to remove plastic that waves bring onto the rocks. The message of this eight-year-old Austrian boy is simple but powerful: we can all do our part.
