After nearly three weeks of investigation, police have detained a suspect in the beating of two Slovenian nationals on the waterfront, while the search for the remaining attackers continues.
Two Slovenian tourists attempted to make contact with girls at a bar in Medulin in the early hours of July 18, 2026. The girls were in the company of four men, and according to investigation sources, this attempt was the trigger for the violence that followed after they left the establishment.
The group was walking along the Medulin waterfront when the Slovenians, aged 26 and 23, took offense at a comment made by one of the people in the group ahead of them. The verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
In the ensuing chaos, the 22-year-old Croatian citizen and his three companions knocked both Slovenians to the ground. The blows continued even after they fell. The older of the two sustained serious injuries, while the younger suffered minor ones.
Police officers from the Pula station conducted a criminal investigation that lasted nearly three weeks. The suspect, aged 22, was arrested on August 6 in the evening and taken to the detention unit in Pula. He is charged with grievous bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm.
While the arrested man remains in custody, an intensive search for the remaining three attackers is ongoing. The Istrian police have not yet released further details about their identities.
