Croatian national team player Nikola Mektić and American tennis player Austin Krajicek have advanced to the doubles final at the ATP 500 tournament in Washington. In Saturday's semifinal match on August 1, 2026, they defeated the Monegasque-French duo of Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin with a score of 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), as reported by Sportske novosti.
For the 37-year-old from Zagreb, this is his 53rd career final on the ATP Tour and his second with the 36-year-old Krajicek. The pair earlier this season won the tournament in Delray Beach. According to Sportske novosti, this will be Krajicek's 34th career final and his 20th with a Croatian partner. The American previously won eight titles with Ivan Dodig and played nine additional finals, and he also has one trophy with Franko Škugor.
In Sunday's final, Mektić will attempt to secure his 34th career title, but his first in Washington. Krajicek also has yet to claim a title in the American capital. This will be his second final at this tournament, having lost in the title match in 2022 alongside Dodig to Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock.
As reported by Sportklub, Krajicek won the French Open with Dodig in 2023 and was ranked world No. 1 that year. On Sunday, he will try to win his 16th career title.
