Zagreb police have completed a criminal investigation into two young men, aged 19 and 21, suspected of extortion against their 19-year-old peer. According to information from the Zagreb Police Department, the incident occurred on July 28, 2026, at around 8 PM in the Zagreb area.
The suspects approached the victim and, citing an alleged debt that did not exist, demanded money from him. During the intimidating encounter, they issued serious verbal threats, then stole his phone and fled the scene. The material damage is estimated at several hundred euros.
Although he did not sustain physical injuries in the incident, the threats caused the victim to experience intense distress and fear. As stated by the Zagreb Police Department, "the serious threats caused the victim to feel distressed and fear for the lives of his family members, as well as for his own life, prompting him to report the case to the police." It was this fear that motivated him to report the entire incident to the relevant authorities.
Upon completion of the criminal investigation, a special report was submitted in the regular course to the Municipal Criminal State Attorney's Office in Zagreb against both suspects. Further steps in the proceedings will be decided by the competent state attorney's office.
