Luka Modrić, captain of the Croatian national team, continues his Italian adventure, and he started the new season with a fresh haircut. Australian barber Zaroon Mohammad took to social media to boast that he had styled nearly all of Milan's players, who are currently on tour in his homeland. Among them was Modrić, whom Mohammad called one of the greatest players of all time.
Shortly after the haircut, the 41-year-old midfielder played his first minutes in Milan's jersey in the new season on Thursday. It was in a friendly match against city rivals Inter in Perth, Australia, which ended 1-1. New coach Ruben Amorim had already hinted before the match that Modrić would play, and the Croatian captain came on in the 62nd minute, replacing Youssouf Fofana.
As soon as he stepped onto the pitch, he took the captain's armband and received a big applause from the crowd, among which a few Croatian flags could be seen. His entrance was part of a series of substitutions made by the Portuguese coach in the middle of the second half.
Modrić signed a new contract with Milan this summer, extending it until the end of June 2027. This activated the extension option and confirmed that he will stay at the club for at least one more season, putting an end to all speculation about a possible end to his career after the World Cup.
He joined Milan on a free transfer in July 2025, after 13 years at Real Madrid, where he won a record 28 trophies. Already in his first season, he established himself as one of the key players.
In the Italian league, Modrić made 34 appearances, scored two goals, and provided three assists, spending a total of 2,816 minutes on the pitch. A cheekbone injury sustained at the end of April prevented him from having more playing time.
