On the impressive stage of the Topana fortress, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, starting at 9 PM, the audience will have the opportunity to witness the tenth jubilee performance of the monodrama "Prkos". This emotional tragicomedy is performed by the artistic organization Connect 4, with the lead role played by young Croatian actress and native of Imotski, Anđela Žužul.
"Prkos" is a work by author Ivan Branko Šamija that, through the life story of one woman, speaks to universal themes of love, loss, strength, and perseverance. The protagonist, Anđa Šamija, a woman from Lovreć in the Imotski region, raises her three children alone after her husband goes off to war. Through numerous life hardships, she preserves the dignity of her family, embodying the quiet heroism of the women of the Dalmatian hinterland.
Anđela Žužul, who has grown particularly attached to this role, noted in the show "Gost s razlogom" on Radio Imotski that the monodrama fits her perfectly and that she enjoys performing a piece that carries a strong and emotional message. "Prkos" is, in fact, an ode to the many women of the Imotski region who for decades silently bore the burden of family, poverty, and difficult circumstances, all while demonstrating incredible courage, selflessness, and precisely that defiance from the title.
A unique feature of this play lies in its visual component. Through three different costumes, created by Sonja Obradović, the audience will follow the life journey of the protagonist, from her forties to her eighties. These costume designs further emphasize the passage of time and the evolution of the central character.
For her performance, Anđela Žužul has already received numerous accolades from audiences and critics alike, and "Prkos" continues to win over viewers with its sincere and life-affirming story that leaves a lasting impression through laughter, tears, and emotion.
