Police officers tasked with combating migrant smuggling and preventing illegal migration thwarted the transport of foreign nationals who had illegally entered the Republic of Croatia in the early morning hours yesterday in the Hreljin area.
A passenger vehicle with Czech license plates, driven by an Azerbaijani national, was stopped. It was established that he was transporting foreign nationals for financial gain to a pre-agreed destination, the police reported.
The criminal investigation confirmed the suspicion that the suspect committed the criminal offense of "Illegal entry, movement, and residence in the Republic of Croatia, another EU member state, or a Schengen Agreement signatory" under Article 326 of the Criminal Code.
Upon completion of the investigation, the suspect was handed over to the detention supervisor along with a criminal complaint. The foreign nationals he was transporting are being processed in accordance with the Law on International and Temporary Protection and the Law on Foreigners.
