The Split-Dalmatia Police Department reported on Monday two separate incidents that marked the weekend. On the popular Zrće beach, a young Italian was arrested for stealing necklaces, while on the island of Brač, a much larger arsenal of weapons and a valuable historical artifact were discovered.
Police officers from the Novalja Police Station conducted a criminal investigation into a 27-year-old Italian citizen. He is suspected of committing aggravated theft and attempted aggravated theft in a nightclub on Zrće beach on the night of July 31, 2026.
According to the investigation results, the 27-year-old tore a necklace from the neck of a 20-year-old fellow countryman and stole it. On the same occasion, he attempted to steal a necklace from a 19-year-old Italian in the same manner but failed. A criminal report has been filed against him with the competent state attorney's office.
In a separate case, police on the island of Brač completed a criminal investigation against a 61-year-old man. He is charged with illegal possession, manufacturing, and procurement of weapons and explosive substances.
During a search of his home, a whole arsenal was found and seized: a hand grenade without a fuse, 151 grams of gunpowder, a rifle with a rifled barrel, scope, and silencer, an artillery shell igniter, two more rifles, a pistol, 140 rounds of various ammunition, and 500 percussion caps.
However, the police's surprises did not end there. An amphora was also found at the suspect's residence, which was determined to be unregistered. The Cultural Heritage Inspectorate of the Ministry of Culture and Media has been notified about this part of the case and will initiate misdemeanor proceedings against the 61-year-old for violating the Act on Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage.
In addition to the criminal report, he has also been reported for a misdemeanor under the Act on the Acquisition and Possession of Weapons by Citizens.
