The Municipal State Attorney's Office in Bjelovar questioned the head of the Sveti Ivan Žabno municipality, Nenad Bošnjak (58), on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, on suspicion of issuing death threats. Following the interrogation, the State Attorney's Office imposed precautionary measures banning him from approaching or contacting the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed.

According to the prosecution's statement, there is reasonable suspicion that Bošnjak issued serious threats to the victim on August 4 in the Koprivnica-Križevci County area. Due to the risk of influencing witnesses, the precautionary measures were imposed immediately after the questioning. Bošnjak was arrested by the police earlier that same day, August 6.

Misdemeanor Charges for Three Men

The police reported the previous day, August 5, that in addition to filing a criminal complaint for threats against the 58-year-old, they also filed misdemeanor charges against three men aged 58, 27, and 23. On Tuesday afternoon in Sveti Ivan Žabno, the three are suspected of disturbing public order in a highly offensive and impolite manner by shouting, making noise, and hitting a car, all stemming from previous disagreements. At the time, a 31-year-old man and a child were inside the vehicle.

Media reports, citing sources close to the investigation, have stated that those charged with misdemeanors are Bošnjak and his two sons, aged 27 and 23. All three have received a misdemeanor indictment for disturbing public order and have been issued precautionary measures prohibiting them from approaching or contacting the 31-year-old.

Weapons Temporarily Seized

Weapons legally owned by the 58-year-old and the 27-year-old have been temporarily seized. Bošnjak was subsequently arrested specifically on suspicion of issuing death threats during the described incident, which led to the criminal complaint and today's questioning at the State Attorney's Office.
