Police and the State Inspectorate conducted a coordinated inspection and found violations of the Foreigners Act regarding the accommodation of workers from Nepal and India.
Due to improper accommodation of as many as 62 foreign workers, an employer from the vicinity of Čazma will face a misdemeanor charge. The Bjelovar-Bilogora Police announced on Monday, August 3, 2026, that in cooperation with the State Inspectorate, they identified serious irregularities in the housing conditions of third-country nationals, thereby violating the provisions of the Foreigners Act.
A comprehensive inspection of the legality of stay, work, and accommodation conditions was conducted on Friday, July 31, 2026, at a company based near Čazma. The operation involved police officers specializing in illegal migration from the Čazma, Daruvar, and Bjelovar police stations, staff from the Public Order and Safety Department, and labor and occupational safety inspectors from the State Inspectorate's Bjelovar Regional Office.
During the inspection, a total of 62 third-country nationals were checked, specifically workers from Nepal and India. Inspectors confirmed that all of them met the requirements for legal stay and work in Croatia, and no irregularities were found in that regard. However, a detailed inspection of their accommodation revealed that the conditions did not meet legal standards.
Due to the identified shortcomings in providing adequate accommodation, the State Inspectorate will file a misdemeanor charge with the Municipal Court in Bjelovar. The proceedings are being conducted against the company from the vicinity of Čazma as the employer and the responsible person within that legal entity.
The police emphasized the importance of such coordinated inspections. By consistently applying the Foreigners Act, they stated, the dignity and safety of workers are protected, and equal business conditions are ensured for all employers who comply with regulations. This message carries added weight given the increasing number of foreign workers entering the Croatian labor market.
