The documentary 'Lađa u New Yorku' showcases the historic 2025 feat, bridging Opuzen and Bjelovar, and will be withdrawn from public after its live premiere on August 7.
Just before the start of the 29th edition of the Lađa Marathon, enthusiasts of Neretva tradition will have a unique opportunity. On Friday, August 7, 2026, a live premiere of the documentary 'Lađa u New Yorku' will take place, telling the story of a feat that took the traditional Neretva boat to the world stage.
The organizers emphasize that this is not an ordinary film screening. After the premiere, the film will no longer be publicly available, adding special weight and exclusivity to the event for all fans of the Lađa Marathon and Croatian heritage.
The documentary follows the creation and development of the Lađa Marathon over the decades, the people who built it, and culminates in the historic moment of 2025. That year, the Neretva boat circumnavigated Manhattan in New York for the first time, becoming a symbol of Croatian tradition far beyond the country's borders.
The film places special emphasis on the unity that bridged geographical distances. Through the participation of teams from Opuzen and Bjelovar, the film shows how sport, tradition, and enthusiasm can connect the Neretva Valley with continental Croatia in achieving a seemingly impossible feat.
The project's originator, Milojko Glasović, launched an initiative that, according to the organizers, transcended a sports story and became part of Croatian cultural heritage. The organizers point out that the week before the Lađa Marathon is the ideal time to pay tribute to all those who, through their effort and vision, made this unique project possible.
The premiere is intended for boatmen, their families, fans, and all enthusiasts of the Lađa Marathon. The goal is for the story of 'Lađa u New Yorku' to reach as many people as possible and further promote the Neretva Valley, the Marathon itself, and Croatian tradition.
