Eight members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) from the Split station successfully carried out a demanding rescue operation on Mount Mosor on the night of Sunday to Monday, August 3, 2026. The intervention followed a report of a person who had sustained a leg injury in an inaccessible area.
Due to specific nighttime conditions and the terrain configuration, the HGSS team had to organize a safe approach to the injured person. Upon arriving at the scene, the rescuers first conducted a thorough examination of the injured individual.
To prevent further deterioration of the injury during the extraction, HGSS members immobilized the injured leg. They then transported the casualty using a stretcher to the nearest road. This part of the operation was crucial because the injured person could not move independently toward the road.
At the road, the casualty was handed over to the emergency medical team for further treatment. This concluded the field portion of the intervention, and all eight rescuers returned to their station in Split.
Mosor, a mountain range in the immediate vicinity of Split, is a frequent destination for day-trippers and hikers. This operation once again underscores the importance of rapid response and field expertise of the HGSS in situations where injuries occur beyond the reach of regular road transport.
In the HGSS announcement, no additional details were provided regarding the circumstances of the injury or the health condition of the casualty after being handed over to the emergency team.
