More than a thousand cattle and horses grazing in Donja Gračenica are bearing the brunt of the extreme heat wave sweeping across Croatia, with the situation made even more alarming by the lack of deep water in Lonjsko Polje, local farmers warn.
Farmer Miško Šklempe from Donja Gračenica does not hide his despair over the situation on the ground. "It's unbelievable that there's no deep water in Lonjsko Polje," Šklempe told Nova TV's Dnevnik, pointing out the paradox that an area known for its wetlands is now facing a basic struggle for the survival of its livestock.
The lack of water directly threatens livestock production in the area, and the current weather conditions are making an already difficult situation even harder for farmers who depend on natural resources.
