Dugo Selo, Velika Gorica, Rugvica, Jakovlje, and Dubrava have announced co-financing measures for the 2026/2027 school year, including work materials, extended stay programs, and even awards for top students.
The City of Dugo Selo will fully finance the purchase of workbooks and other educational materials for all primary school students residing in its area, amounting to €50 per student. The decision comes a month before the start of classes, in a wave of announcements by towns and municipalities around Zagreb aiming to ease family budgets for the 2026/2027 school year with various measures: from art portfolios and workbooks, to extended stay programs, and even cash awards for students.
In addition to the one-time aid for materials, Dugo Selo continues to co-finance the extended stay program, with €150,000 allocated in the city budget for this purpose. The measure covers students of Ivan Benković Primary School and Josip Zorić Primary School in Dugo Selo, as well as those from Dugo Selo attending "Stjepan Radić" Primary School in Božjakovina. The monthly co-financing per student amounts to €65.
Velika Gorica, relying on state-provided free textbooks for primary school students, will additionally finance all necessary work materials, workbooks, art portfolios, and other accompanying materials from the city budget. The Municipality of Rugvica, on the other hand, has directed its aid also to secondary school students: it will subsidize the purchase of textbooks for students of Dugo Selo High School who reside in Rugvica, with parents, guardians, or adult students purchasing the books independently according to official lists, and claiming reimbursement after submitting a request during September.
But Rugvica doesn't stop there. For the 2025/2026 academic year, the Municipality will award cash prizes to the best vocational school student, the best grammar school student, the best undergraduate student, and the best graduate student, all with Croatian citizenship and residency in Rugvica for at least one year prior to the announcement of the competition. The specific award amounts will be determined by the Municipal Council.
The Municipality of Jakovlje continues to finance the extended stay program at its local primary school, covering the costs of salaries and other material rights of the staff implementing it. Similar support is provided by the Municipality of Dubrava, which, in addition to state-provided free textbooks, will fully finance the purchase of workbooks for its primary school students in the upcoming school year. The municipal budget has allocated €25,000 for this purpose.
