The 'Safe Tourist Destination' project in Istria County enters its 18th season, with foreign officers assisting in communication with tourists across Istrian coastal towns.
This year's tourist season in Poreč has brought the continuation of the long-standing practice of joint patrols between local and foreign police officers. On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the continuation of the 'Safe Tourist Destination' project was officially announced in the Small Council Chamber of the City of Poreč. The project has been running for 21 years nationwide and enters its 18th season in Istria County.
A special guest at the presentation was German police officer Jasmin Mohrmann, who comes to Poreč from Oldenburg, a city in Lower Saxony. She noted that this is her first visit to Croatia and expressed great satisfaction with the relationship with colleagues from the Poreč police station. Also present at the event were Mayor Loris Peršurić, Deputy Mayor Nataša Basanić Ćuš, Director of the Poreč Tourist Board Nenad Velenik, Chief of the Poreč Police Station Tomislav Vrbljančević, and his deputy Branko Šimić.
During their assignment in Croatia, foreign police officers wear the official uniforms of their home countries and patrol side by side with their Croatian colleagues. Their role is crucial in situations where language barriers need to be overcome, whether in traffic accidents, criminal offenses, misdemeanors, missing persons, or other incidents involving citizens of their countries.
The project brings together police officers from a total of eight countries. In addition to Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, and Serbia have also sent their representatives to Istrian coastal towns this season.
