The Zadar city administration has initiated the official procurement procedure for the preparation of documentation for the second phase of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). The value of this work is estimated at 200,000 euros (excluding VAT), and its implementation would extend smart traffic management to nearly the entire city area. The decision was confirmed at the regular meeting of Mayor Šime Erlić's cabinet.
Expansion of the System to 27 New Points
As part of the second phase of the ITS, installation is planned at 27 additional micro-locations. The project task also includes expanding zones for monitoring illegal stopping and parking, as well as introducing special functions that will ensure priority passage for emergency vehicles through intersections.
Recall that the first phase of the ITS covered 18 intersections in Zadar, where synchronized traffic lights that respond to current traffic conditions were installed. This is achieved using detection and analytical cameras that record vehicle flow, and all collected data is processed at the City Traffic Control Center located in the InZad incubator in Novi Bokanjac. The new phase directly ties into the continuation of works on Dr. Franje Tuđmana Street, one of the busiest city arteries.
New Price List for Chimney Sweeps After More Than a Decade
The cabinet also adopted a new Price List for Chimney Sweep Services, the first since 2014. The preparation of the proposal was preceded by meetings with chimney sweeps and representatives of the Zadar Craftsmen's Association, and the final document received a positive opinion from the Advisory Body for Consumer Protection of Public Services.
The previous Price List was adopted back in 2014, and prices have not changed since then. Our goal was to create a price list that reflects the current conditions of performing this activity,
explained Hrvoje Šarić, Deputy Head of the Administrative Department for Utilities and Environmental Protection. The new price list takes effect just before the announcement of new four-year concessions for chimney sweep services, which will replace existing contracts during 2026.
Over 80 Thousand Euros for Gifted Students
The City continues its investments in the education of gifted students, allocating a total of 83 thousand euros for the school year 2026/2027. Of this amount, 43 thousand euros will be directed to the Center for Identifying and Working with Gifted Students "DaR", while the remaining 40 thousand euros are intended for centers of excellence in mathematics, physics, and computer science. In the previous school year, among 765 first-grade students, 82 gifted students were identified, and the "DaR" Center gathered between 150 and 200 participants. Simultaneously, about 145 students followed programs through the three centers of excellence.
School Renovation, Transport, and Support for a Film About a Veteran
A decision was also made to continue preparations for the energy renovation of Šime Budinić Elementary School, attended by approximately 950 students. The company MPLAN d.o.o. was selected for the revision of the existing project documentation, and the value of the concluded contract is 7,000 euros excluding VAT. The planned works include renovation of facades and roofs, replacement of joinery, and modernization of the heating system.
It was confirmed that the City will continue to finance transportation for elementary school students in the upcoming school year, for which 350 thousand euros have been secured in the budget. Last year, 635 students used this free transport service. The City will also support the continued filming of the documentary "Marko Babić", dedicated to one of the symbols of the defense of Vukovar, with 2,500 euros.
Marko Babić was one of the symbols of the defense of Vukovar, a man whose courage on Trpinjska Road became part of the history of the Homeland War,
stated Mladen Klanac, Head of the Department.
Patronage of Sports and Technology Events
The City of Zadar will be the patron of the 14th International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament Sirena Cup, held in Zadar in early October, as well as the international conference MIPRO Robotics 2026. This conference in the field of robotics and mechatronics will be held for the first time at the University of Zadar, from September 9 to 12. The City has also approved sponsorship support of one thousand euros for this event.
