Croatia is set for a split weather picture on Friday, August 7, 2026. While the mainland will experience a slight cooling and instability, residents and tourists on the Adriatic will have to brace for another exceptionally hot day, with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius in the far south, HRT has reported.

Wednesday already hinted at a change in the weather. Although most of the country was sunny and very hot, the afternoon brought rain, thunderstorms, and locally intense showers in the interior of Istria and Dalmatia. This trend of instability will continue into Thursday, especially over inland areas.

Mainland: Less Hot, but with Showers

According to HRT's forecast, the east of the country will see partly cloudy skies with sunny spells. Rain is expected in places, with locally heavier showers and thunderstorms possible. A north and northwest wind will blow, and the daily high will be slightly lower than on Wednesday, ranging from 31 to 35 degrees.

Further west in the interior, it will be a bit cooler, with highs between 29 and 32 degrees. Mornings across the mainland will be pleasant, with temperatures from 19 to 22 degrees. Clouds will increase at times, and a little rain may fall as early as the morning. In the afternoon, stronger showers with thunderstorms are possible, accompanied by a light to moderate northeast and north wind.

Mountains and Northern Adriatic: Bura Brings a Change

In Lika and Gorski Kotar, temperatures will rise to between 28 and 31 degrees. The northern Adriatic will see the bura wind, which will have strong and gusty bursts at the foot of Velebit, especially in the first part of the day. With occasional moderate to increased cloud cover, there is a chance of scattered rain and thunderstorms, and heavier showers cannot be ruled out.

Despite the bura, the sea will remain warm, and air temperatures on the northern Adriatic and in most of Dalmatia will range from 34 to 37 degrees.

South: Scorching Up to 38 Degrees

The real heat will persist in the far south of Croatia, where the forecast predicts plenty of sunshine. Only in a few places, with daytime cloud development, is there a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms. A light to moderate southwest and northwest wind will blow, with the bura picking up toward the end of the day. Daily highs in the far south will climb from 34 to 38 degrees, while the lowest morning temperatures will be between 22 and 27 degrees.

Weekend Brings Stabilization

According to available forecasts, Saturday, August 8, will not be overly hot on the mainland, with scattered rain and local showers with thunderstorms, along with a north wind. At the sea, the weather will remain similarly hot as in previous days, with a strong bura blowing in places during the first part of Saturday. It will be mostly sunny, although isolated showers are possible.

From Sunday, August 9, conditions will settle down. Expect mostly sunny weather, with only the occasional shower, and temperatures will rise slightly again.
