Police stopped a 30-year-old man on Saturday evening who was performing dangerous maneuvers under the influence of alcohol, and they also found he did not have a valid driver's license.
An unusual scene unfolded on Saturday, August 1, 2026, around 10 PM in the roundabout in Pakoštane. Police officers spotted a passenger vehicle with Zadar license plates whose driver was performing dangerous maneuvers - he would accelerate suddenly, then brake abruptly, spin his wheels, and repeat the cycle of acceleration and braking, effectively drifting in circles.
The police patrol immediately reacted and stopped the car. During the check, a 30-year-old man was found behind the wheel, and a breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of as much as 1.93 per mille. Further checks also established that he was driving without a valid driver's license, i.e., before obtaining the right to operate a motor vehicle.
According to information from the Zadar Police Department, the man refused to provide blood and urine samples for further analysis during the procedure. After all the established violations, he was arrested and taken to police premises.
Already on Sunday, August 2, 2026, the 30-year-old was brought before the competent court along with a criminal complaint. The police proposed a fine, a prison sentence, and the imposition of a protective measure banning him from driving a motor vehicle for 12 months. After the hearing, the judge ordered his detention for up to 10 days, after which he was handed over to the prison in Zadar.
