A 30-year-old man lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree in Novalja on Tuesday while under the influence of alcohol.
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at around 7:10 PM, a serious traffic accident occurred in Novalja. A 30-year-old Croatian citizen was riding a moped with Zagreb license plates when he lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree.
According to police sources, the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. As a result, he failed to react in time and stop the moped, leading to the vehicle leaving the road and a violent impact with the tree. He sustained severe injuries in the crash and received immediate medical attention.
The police conducted an investigation at the scene and once again urge all drivers, especially motorcyclists and moped riders, not to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol slows reaction time, reduces concentration, and impairs distance judgment, which, combined with excessive speed, can have fatal consequences.
Police advise that if you plan to drink, arrange safe transportation in advance or designate a sober driver. Instead of driving, use a taxi or public transport. They also remind everyone of the obligation to wear proper protective gear and obey traffic regulations.
