Participants of the 15th memorial and educational trek "Operation Storm Trail 2026" successfully reported from Croatia's highest point on Tuesday. Around fifty hikers reached the summit of Sinjal, also known as Dinara, which stands at 1,831 meters above sea level, organizers confirmed.
Final Destination in Knin Tomorrow
After conquering the roof of Croatia, participants are expected to arrive at their final destination, Knin Fortress, tomorrow. This seven-day trek began on July 30, 2026, and concludes on Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, August 5. The goal of the trek is to pay tribute to fallen and missing Croatian defenders.
The route, approximately 160 kilometers long, winds through the rugged terrain of Dinara, with hikers overcoming a total elevation gain of 7,500 meters along the way. The trek started in Trilj, continued over Kamešnica and Dinara, and ends in Knin.
Experienced Hikers from Across the Country
Around fifty experienced hikers are taking part in this demanding trek. They come from twelve different mountaineering societies, with support from members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS). Photographer Darko Gavrić Čerćo from HGSS captured the moment when participants gathered at the summit of Sinjal.
This is the fifteenth edition of the memorial and educational trek, which year after year brings together enthusiasts of mountains and homeland, combining physical challenge with paying homage to those who took part in creating a sovereign Croatia.
