Among those fined are five Croatian nationals, with most offenders coming from Slovenia and Germany. Police urge caution and compliance with the ban on speeding within 300 meters of the coast.
Over the past week, crews of police vessels from the Maritime Police Station in the Kvarner area recorded as many as 61 violations of illegal speeding. This refers to operating a vessel at high speed within 300 meters of the shore, which directly endangers the safety of swimmers and other participants in maritime traffic.
According to data from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department, the intensified surveillance operation was conducted across the wider Kvarner area, with violations confirmed in the waters around the islands of Krk, Rab, and Cres, as well as in the Kraljevica area.
An analysis of the nationalities of those penalized shows that foreign boaters committed the majority of violations. Citizens of Slovenia and Germany lead the list, with 15 each. They are followed by nine Austrian citizens, six Italians, five Croats, and four Hungarians. There were also two violations by Slovak citizens and one each from Romania, Belgium, Poland, Serbia, and the Czech Republic.
All offenders were issued fines in accordance with the provisions of the Maritime Code. The specific amounts of the fines were not disclosed in the announcement.
The Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department stated that intensified maritime surveillance will continue with the aim of enhancing safety. They issued a clear appeal to boaters.
We urge boaters to comply with regulations and consider the safety of swimmers and other sea users, especially the ban on speeding within 300 meters of the shore, the police said.
Speeding near the coast poses a significant risk, especially during the summer months when beaches are crowded. In addition to the noise and waves it generates, fast navigation in close proximity to beaches can lead to serious accidents with fatal consequences.
