The Split-Dalmatia Police Department conducted two separate operations over the past weekend, resulting in the seizure of a significant amount of illegal weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices. One operation took place in Split, where a young man was stopped with a pistol, while on the island of Brač, a veritable arsenal was discovered in the home of a 61-year-old man.
On Sunday, at approximately 12:50 AM, officers from the Split intervention police stopped a 23-year-old Croatian citizen. A search of his vehicle revealed that he was illegally in possession of a pistol with a magazine containing two bullets.
The young man, previously known to the police for reports of disorderly conduct and threats, was arrested at the scene. A criminal investigation was conducted, and he is suspected of three misdemeanors under the Law on the Acquisition and Possession of Weapons by Citizens. He was brought before the court with a motion for prosecution, and the police proposed detention and a 30-day prison sentence. However, the court decided to release him.
Meanwhile, police officers on the island of Brač completed a criminal investigation into a 61-year-old man. During a search of his home, a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices was found and seized.
The list of confiscated items includes a hand grenade without a fuse, 151 grams of gunpowder, a rifled-barrel rifle with a scope and silencer, an artillery shell igniter, two additional rifles, one pistol, 140 pieces of assorted ammunition, and as many as 500 percussion caps.
In addition to the weapons, an amphora that had not been properly registered was also found during the search of the home on Brač. Consequently, the Cultural Heritage Inspectorate of the Ministry of Culture and Media will be notified, and they will initiate misdemeanor proceedings.
Following the completion of the criminal investigation, a criminal report was filed against the 61-year-old for illegal possession, manufacture, and procurement of weapons and explosive substances. A misdemeanor report was also filed under the Law on the Acquisition and Possession of Weapons by Citizens.
