Summary
  • The City Office annulled the elections for the president of HTK Zagreb held on March 24, 2026.
  • Mihovil Švigir won 52 votes and Hrvoje Ćale 39, but 14 people without voting rights cast ballots.
  • Due to the secret ballot, it is impossible to determine the final winner, and other assembly decisions have been called into question.

The City Office has annulled the elections for the president of Croatia's most decorated tennis club, HTK Zagreb, held on March 24, 2026. At the electoral assembly, former Croatian football international and Dinamo player Hrvoje Ćale and Mihovil Švigir were candidates.

Švigir celebrated, then came the turnaround

According to the minutes of the assembly, Švigir won 52 votes, while Ćale received 39. However, the celebration was short-lived. A subsequent check by the City Office revealed that 91 people voted in the elections, but only 77 had the right to vote, as reported by 24sata Sport.

The discrepancy of 14 people arose because they had not paid their membership fees. Their payments were recorded as donations or sponsorships, meaning that according to the club's Statute, they could not be considered members with voting rights.

Voting was secret, outcome uncertain

Since the voting was secret, it is no longer possible to determine which of the two candidates received the disputed votes. Therefore, it is impossible to say with certainty whether either of them obtained the required majority of members' votes.

The City Office has therefore rejected HTK Zagreb's request to register the changes in the Register of Associations. This decision also raises questions about the validity of other decisions made at the same assembly, including the election of members of the Management and Supervisory Boards and the club's director.
